The producer, manufacturer, packer or importer determines the lot, and the lot mark must begin with "L" unless clearly distinguishable (MK Nr. 115); for food in certain registered groups the company files a Latvian label text and the original pack with PVD before registration.

Under the State Language Law Art. 21, labels of goods made in Latvia must be in Latvian, with the Latvian text given the main place and not smaller than any foreign text, and imported goods must carry a Latvian translation, typically as an added sticker; cosmetics must show the Art. 19 particulars of Reg. 1223/2009 in Latvian (MK Nr. 354, point 10).

Food and food supplement businesses apply through PVD as national competent authority, which checks the application and forwards it to EFSA for disease-risk, children's and new-science health claims; nutrition claims follow Reg. 1924/2006.
